Aubrey Reeves is an artist, curator and arts manager based in Toronto, Ontario. In 2004, Aubrey completed her M.A. at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College in New York and also holds a B.A. from University of Toronto (2001). She has exhibited her film and video work across Canada and internationally.
With the support of a Canada Council Research and Creation Grant for Media Artists, Aubrey spent the summer of 2009 on Grand Manan, a remote island in the Bay of Fundy. While in residence, she researched and developed The Storm and The Calm, a new video installation based on a shipwreck that happened in 1857. The second half of the project, The Calm, premiered at the 2010 Scotiabank Nuit Blanche in Zone C, curated by Christof Migone.
Glide, a duel-screen 16mm film installation has recently been exhibited the Kasseler DocumentaryFilm und VideoFest in Kassel, Germany (2010), Ed Video, Guelph (2010) and has up-coming shows at Modern Fuel, Kingston (2011) and at the Art Gallery of Hamilton (2012).
In 2007, Aubrey did a creative residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts where she developed a multi-disciplinary performance and installation called The Diamond Maker; or, the Alchemist’s Daughter based on Victorian magic lantern shows. Between 2006-2009, her video installation Dagbok showed at Kasseler DocumentaryFilm und VideoFest in Germany, Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography in Toronto, at Artcite Inc. in Windsor and at the Khyber Art Society in Halifax.
From 2004-2008, Aubrey was the Programming Director at Trinity Square Video, one of Canada’s oldest artist-run media art centres. In 2009 she was the Artistic Producer of spOtlight Festival, a pilot program of the Ontario Art Council (OAC) and Ontario Ministry of Culture. This year, she was the Ontario Animator/Coordinator for the inaugural year of Culture Days, a Canadian celebration of art and cultural taking place from coast to coast September 24-26, 2010.
